Tree Cleanup

Even though it’s still February, living the rural life means taking advantage of any beautiful day that comes along. This big game Sunday afternoon was definitely a Midwest fake spring day. We took advantage of the beautiful weather to get a jump start on “spring cleaning” outside. A week ago we experienced a day and evening full of extremely strong winds, and several dead trees in the woods surrounding the house didn’t stand a chance.

The top portion of the tree sent pieces several yards into the yard. After picking up the pieces strew out in the yard it was time to chain up the huge Y trunk to the truck and try to pull it out and take it to the burn pile. There was another tree, albeit a much smaller diameter tree, that was between the Y, presenting a possible problem.

We got the trunk pulled out without a problem, thankfully. However, the front limb broke off when we started to drag it to the burn pile. It actually was a good thing as dragging the big limbs, even broken, tore up the yard just a bit.

After some wrangling of the trunks and branches, it was time to burn. While we watched the trees burn, we talked about the three other trees we noticed that will be coming down the rest of the way in the next big storm. Always something to do.

It was a productive afternoon and great being able to enjoy the sun and mid 50’s temperature. Now time to get cleaned up, make some munchies and watch the big game.

Thanks for letting me share a bit about rural life rules. So long from the farm.
