Pimento Grilled Cheese

The Masters Tournament official sandwich! As a staple of Southern cuisine, pimento cheese is also referred to as "pâté of the South", "Carolina caviar" and "the caviar of the South." Traditionally pimento cheese is spread on white bread and eaten as a cold sandwich. I like it grilled as well with heat by adding jalapenos!

One could easily go to the market and buy premade spread, but it’s super easy to make at home. Here’s the recipe.

2 cups shredded extra-sharp Cheddar cheese

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened

  • ½ cup mayonnaise

  • 1 (4 oz) jar diced pimento, drained**

  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced (Optional)**

  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

  • ¼ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper (Optional)

  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder

  • salt and black pepper to taste **

After gathering all of the ingredients, it’s as simple as mixing everything together thoroughly!

**Notes

I didn’t have any pimentos, but I did have a jar of roasted red peppers. They're a great substitute!
The batch I made had the jalapenos left out and instead put on the sandwich.
I actually didn’t use any salt and pepper. Still tastes great!
